As we know, a good blazer is a must in every wardrobe – the one that makes you feel your best, the one that makes you feel like it was made just for you and you can reach for time and time again. So, this instalment of Style Focus had to be around The Frankie Shop’s infamous blazers, and in particular the one I managed to grab during the January sales ‘The Gelso’. I don’t actually own anything from The Frankie Shop already, this was my first purchase so I was really excited to see what the hype is all about, and I must say, I totally get it!
“I always think of sizing as an indicator of what kind of style & look you want out of the piece, rather than a size/number that you end up giving your body.“
I always always always size up around three sizes when it comes to blazers and coats as I personally really love an oversized look, so I probably tend to go for a 14 or 16 and that’s even when pieces are made to be ‘oversized’. But with The Frankie Shop, the cut is made to be the kind of fit I always try to achieve with all other blazes. The tailoring and style of cut is just perfection.
I went with the M/L after measuring up the shoulders from the description measurements, I really wanted the shoulders to give a strong silhouette with a bit of a sartorial feel. The blazer itself is super straight and boxy with no darts or shaping seams, so it gives that perfect masculine shape.
I always think of sizing as an indicator of what kind of style and look you want out of the piece, rather than a size/number that you end up giving your body. It’s the garments number for the type of style it’ll have, not a number of your body. Nothing in my wardrobe is in the size I would be labelled to be, and that’s especially with outerwear and even jeans. For me, the more oversized, the more expensive it looks.
I had to nab the taupey beige colour in the sales as it’s the perfect neutral which will see me through literally, the entire year. From layering up with chunky knits to throwing over dresses in the summer. Imagine it over a minimal evening dress for dinner or an event – a dream!
So far, I’ve really been enjoying pairing it with jeans and super chunky knitwear as it’s been so cold again since it arrived. It instantly makes a simple outfit look so much more elevated which is another win, meaning you can pair up a super quick and simple combination, throw the blazer on top and look put together instantly. But, I cannot wait for spring to arrive to pair with oversized shirts and tees, you’re going to be seeing this blazer A LOT!
