My question is, are we perceiving social media like those ‘perfect’ fashion mags? At the end of the day it’s still a form of marketing media – so whatever the photo is it needs to look good to attract people, it’s just a new advanced, fast paced way. But this time WE have so much more control over it because it’s what WE CHOOSE to put out there, and it’s up to us how much we take what we see so literal. If we didn’t like it once before like e.g. magazines, then why are we doing it to ourselves again?

It’s almost like a vicious circle going around again and audiences on social media feeling a lot of pressure of getting ‘the shot’ or maybe beating themselves down because they scroll through finely tuned feeds and aesthetically pleasing photo’s and think ‘oh my photo’s never look as good’ or even doubting their personality or lifestyle even.
I wanted to more so put across the thought in my mind that day I had in the car – I’m sure every single one of us whether now or growing up have pondered upon those ‘perfect’ fashion magazines, and dis-liking magazines because they made us feel x y or z, so why are we doing it to ourselves again now when we know that EVERYONE chooses to put their ‘best photo’ (from a bunch of couple of hundred ‘not so perfect’ photos) on social media or even anywhere else they wish to put too…
We need to remember that we all naturally like to show our best versions of ourselves and discard those couple of hundred other shots that didn’t quiet cut the mark, so as audiences we shouldn’t take that one photo so literal and beat ourselves down when we scroll through beautiful photos on social media. Girls day on end pressure themselves (me included) and so I just wanted to share how I’ve come to realise that I myself put my best version of myself in my content and that’s what everyone else is doing too; I need to look at that and be inspired by it, not take it literal/personally and let it ever beat me down.
Always remember, when you start feeling those negative feels creeping up onto your mind and upon yourself; there’s always “a couple of hundred photos that didn’t make the cut before getting “that one”…. Everyone has a bigger behind the scenes than that one ‘perfect’ cut on social media; they didn’t have everything looking spot on by the click of their fingers.

Hello dear! I truly loved this post. It’s basically what I’ve been thinking for a while now about social media. I feel like the pressure to be perfect just changed from magazines to social media. Thank you for sharing 🙂

I’m so so glad that you enjoyed! It’s so important not to get lost in so much beautiful content to the extent of feeling pressured. Taking a step back and reminding ourselves that we need to be our individual selves is what will keep this field so much more interesting!
